Testimonials

“Having protected time and space to think and talk through a range of potential career options was one of the most useful things about career coaching with Lucy. In particular I really valued Lucy’s encouragement not to feel the pressure to ‘rush in’ and make decisions without first taking the time to reflect.

Sitting with uncertainty is not always easy. Lucy ‘held my hand’ throughout the process and encouraged me to explore as many options as possible. As a result I was able to make more informed decisions which were aligned with my values and aspirations for both my career and my life. Both parts need to be in balance!

I really needed support to step back, review, reflect and clarify what I wanted next – and not to panic whilst taking the time to do this!

Lucy was hugely professional and caring but also we had a giggle at times too which I really liked (not all super serious!). Lucy had a steadying effect on me when I had a wobble – that’s really what I needed. I always left our sessions feeling lighter, reassured, energised and back on track. Just a huge thanks – it was great working with you! “

- SENIOR LEADERSHIP CONSULTANT, NOT FOR PROFIT SECTOR

“I would liken coaching to opening the lid of a jar, maybe one whose contents you weren’t quite sure of; taking things out bit by bit, laying them out and being surprised by what you find - the items being skills, strengths and conditions. From that being able to define, really, what you have to offer.

Being able to ascertain what I need in order to thrive, has given me confidence to know that in the work environment if I do what I do best, then the passion will shine through and that will be my best self at work.

Secondly, understanding the above puts meaning/understanding in to why I may NOT be doing so well at work. Clarity is gained. Decision making becomes more straight forward.

Coaching has opened the door to improving both confidence and motivation to job searching along with clarity and definition about what I’m trying to achieve. Before coaching started, I didn’t realise the breadth of what I was looking at and in reality considering career options, where I am now, what to do next and how to get there requires self-exploration and gaining a level of preparedness.

Coaching with Lucy was focussed and importantly Lucy understood the issues/considerations around mid- life, which helped me with grounded decision making. Whilst it’s lovely to think the sky’s the limit, there is a reality which is incredibly important.

It’s obvious that Lucy is passionate about coaching, with knowledge and expertise. The LinkedIn insights and posts were helpful as they made me realise many have the same considerations/issues which was encouraging.

I would definitely recommend Lucy as a midlife career coach.”

“I contacted Lucy because I needed help with finding a better balance between my job as a Programme Manager and everything else in my life. I really love my job but I was working too many hours, I had no time to think and I wasn’t doing any of the other things that were important to me. I wanted to fit my work around my life rather than the other way round. I wanted to find the time to be healthy, exercise amongst other things and find the time to do more things that bring me joy.

Lucy built the coaching around my objectives and what I needed. Even when I needed to change the sessions, their length and have longer to prepare, this was never a problem.

Whilst the focus of the coaching was initially on my work balance, the career coaching also made me take a step back and widen my perspective of where I want to go in the future and where else I need to take action. I’m feeling ready for a change and have taken steps to move this forward. I have reduced the hours that I work and have taken big steps around my health, fitness and sleep. There's more to do but I'm much more consistent.

We worked well together. Having Lucy as an accountability partner enabled me to drive my own development as I knew I committed to taking a number of actions between sessions.

Lucy also brought her own vast experience and different perspectives to the coaching experience. I really liked the playback emails on the sessions that were sent as well as the occasional link to an article. She also has an amazing suite of tools that has helped me gain clarity on who I am, what I stand for and what I need to do to get me where I want to be.

Underpinning the coaching was the rapport that was quickly built with Lucy. She was honest, frank and flexible. Conversations were always natural. I’ve had some coaches where this wasn’t the case.

I would definitely recommend working with Lucy if you’re at the midlife stage of your working life and want to make changes.”

- PROGRAMME MANAGER - LARGE ONLINE AND HIGH STREET RETAILER, UK

“I have thoroughly enjoyed career coaching with Lucy.  I feel excited about the future and where this might take me.  I feel I am now in a strong position to find my career next steps that are right for me.  My goal was to identify what my career next steps might look like and in doing that I wanted this to reflect me, my purpose, values and strengths.  The coaching experience with Lucy has absolutely supported this.  I now have a clear view of the career possibilities which I can now explore with confidence.  I would absolutely recommend Lucy as a career coach.”

- HEAD OF HR,UK

“I came to Lucy with the objective of trying to regain a sense of positivity about my career.  The ‘taking stock’ which I did as part of the career coaching was an important foundation for me.  I certainly feel that I have achieved my objective.  I am now more positive about my direction and contribution.  I also have reached out to my network and had career chats with my extended network which has been really useful.  I don’t think I would have done this without the coaching.

Lucy has been supportive, positive, challenging and empowering.  I think the most important benefit of the career coaching has been having Lucy as an external unbiased viewpoint.  She listened and understood who I am and was able to point out my positive qualities.  It was a huge boost to my self-confidence.”

- ASSISTANT HEADTEACHER, UK

“When I first met Lucy I was at a critical crossroads in my career, which with a changing personal environment, had left me feeling somewhat lost and directionless. Lucy helped shape the various options available to me. Her skill is making you do the thinking so the shape of what is possible is suddenly there in front of you. She has both exceptional listening skills and a strategic intellectual approach delivered in an empathetic, positive format. Working through our sessions I was able to take on new projects (well out of my previous comfort zone) and bid a permanent goodbye to a client of over 20 years. In doing so, Lucy helped me to challenge the way I had worked and allow new people and professional opportunities into my life. I could not have achieved any of this without her. She is calm, consistent, ultra sensitive to difficult areas of discussion but unafraid to probe and re-visit tricky topics when necessary and relevant. It has been an extraordinarily positive and constructive experience for me and one I would highly recommend.”

“I started working with Lucy at a time when I was deeply questioning my career choices. Although work was interesting, I felt something was missing. Coaching with Lucy helped me to really articulate my values, understand the significance of the skills I’d acquired and create a roadmap to a more purpose-led line of work. I now have a fantastic role in an organisation that really resonates with my values. I know that happened as a direct result of coaching with Lucy. Her upbeat, positive approach and ability to both challenge and encourage you to step outside of your comfort zone creates space for fresh thinking and problem solving. If you are at a point of questioning in your career, I would highly recommend Lucy to help you navigate the path to meaningful change.”

— SENIOR EXECUTIVE, LARGE SOCIAL ENTERPRISE, SW ENGLAND

“Lucy is able to articulate and connect our conversations in ways that escape my own awareness. This is a crucial part of the coaching process. She has a thoroughness and discipline in her work, as well as an openness and flexibility to adapt, change direction and adjust on the spot, whilst also seeking feedback from me to make sure I’m getting what I need from the sessions.”

— HR MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT AND ORGANISATIONAL CONSULTANT, OWN PRACTICE, HONG KONG

“Working with Lucy to explore my future career options was exactly what I needed. There was a logical flow to the coaching sessions, and I came away each time feeling positive, refreshed and excited about the next steps. Lucy is compassionate, flexible to the changing needs and circumstances of the client, and incredibly perceptive - somehow managing to ‘read between the lines’ and to pick up on things that I may have barely mentioned but that turned out to be significant. I’m thrilled to have just landed a job that seems to be an ideal match for the skills and passions Lucy helped me to identify. I’m in no doubt that she played a key part in me getting to this point. For the first time in my career, I don’t feel I’m jumping into something without really thinking it through. ”

— SENIOR COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE, LEADING UK CHARITY

“I contacted Lucy when in a real quandary about how to handle my next steps in my then-current position and in my job search for something more fulfilling. After our first conversation, I immediately felt reassured and supported. I was in the company of a professional who really knew her stuff, who was able to open my eyes to options that I had not been able to get perspective on alone, who was delighted to explore new ideas and see where they led. She offered essential tools that helped me prepare responses to tricky situations at work (we were in the throes of change management), and for up-coming interviews. Every step along the way she was helpful, informative, caring - and gently humourous. When I landed the job I wanted, she was kind enough to act as an informal sounding board for the negotiating table. I thoroughly recommend Lucy Weldon to help anyone who is looking for new career direction and horizons. She was an essential member of my support ‘team’, providing well thought- through guidance and help to keep focused. I am sincerely grateful to her!”

— COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST, GLOBAL CHARITY, GENEVA

“I have known Lucy for over twenty-five years and would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone looking to find a fresh perspective. Lucy has deep listening skills combined with an innate ability to read people and situations. The ability to provoke your own thinking, offer insight and help you reflect - topped by a fine sense of humour - mean that discussions are always enjoyable as well as productive. Lucy’s combination of skills with her breadth of experience means you will have a coaching partner who will undoubtedly challenge you but in ways which result in practical, action-oriented steps. ”

— DIRECTOR, GLOBAL PRIVATE BANKING

“I have been transitioning from a long-established career path to a new one in education consulting. Lucy has been providing me with coaching support to manage the significant change. Her coaching style is very positive, systematic and edged with humour which makes it less formal and less intimidating. She is a great listener and good at keeping the conversation to the point. The coaching has galvanised me to follow through on action points even when mentally I was feeling less motivated. Lucy’s analysis and evaluation of problems and routes to finding my own solutions is impressive. She gets to the nub of the problem quickly and is then practical in encouraging me to find solutions. Also, her prioritisation is spot on. I finished the last session feeling empowered and with a good idea of my direction and feeling less guilty that things were not happening fast enough.”

— EDUCATIONAL CONSULTANT, UK

“When I first talked to Lucy, I had reached a low point in my current job and was considering a change, but felt that my skills were very particular to my role and wasn’t sure how to move on. We decided to do a simple analysis of my skills and interests to gain some insight. Lucy pushed me through the whole process, making me think carefully about what factors were important to my job satisfaction and what had contributed to success in the past. She also helped me identify a whole host of transferable skills and in particular encouraged me not to undervalue myself, but instead to “toot my own horn”, as we put it. Through it all, she was friendly and a great listener, giving me time to express myself but also knowing when to pull the conversation back on track. After each session she provided a summary in writing, which helped crystallise the key points in my mind. Now, after a few weeks, I am in the process of applying for a management job at my company. Although I know it will be a challenge, I am now much better equipped to give it my best shot.”

— TEAM LEAD, TRANSLATOR, GERMANY

“I had some coaching with Lucy Weldon recently to help me prepare for a work opportunity. I found that right from the start she gets to the nub of what you will find most helpful. Her coaching is a customized, collaborative process; while she is firmly in that process and guiding it, I always felt I was in the driving seat alongside her. She recognizes that everyone and every career is different and we are looking for different things at different times in our lives too.

Lucy really listens. She helps you draw out what’s pertinent. She’s not afraid to challenge when that’s appropriate. She uses coaching tools flexibly and dynamically to work for your purposes. I’m delighted to recommend her. ”

— NON PROFIT, MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONAL

“I had the pleasure of working with Lucy for over six months. As a coach, Lucy has a great ability to untangle your inquiries and unearth the questions that are most helpful to focus on. She has the experience and presence to hold complex issues lightly, while providing a safe environment to challenge your thoughts and feelings in a way that helps surface clear actions. Lucy’s calming presence, makes the exploration of a career challenge an exciting journey that you feel you want to step into and own.

Lucy also taught on some of the coaching workshops I have attended and is able to bring her experience to life. Her teaching style combines practical taught theory with immediate experiential learning opportunities, as well as support in enabling attendees to develop their own approach to healthy cycles of theory, practice and reflection.

It has been pleasure to work with Lucy and I recommend her to anyone wanting to explore how to own your career challenge or change.”
